Gavin Walmsley
- Profile
Gavin qualified as a Solicitor in April 2007 and joined Birketts in February 2023. Gavin is a Senior Associate in our London-based Residential Real Estate Team, focusing on leasehold enfranchisement and landlord and tenant matters. His areas of expertise include residential advisory work, asset management in a residential context (rights of first refusal and Right to Manage), contentious and non-contentious leasehold enfranchisement including high value, complex claims of flats and houses and mixed estates.
Gavin assists both landlords and tenants spread across London and the rest of the country.
Recent examples of Gavin’s work include acting for large landlords who own head leases of large estates advising in relation to ‘Aggio claims’ to acquire new leases of individual flats and the freehold of those units which are considered as ‘houses’ or any subsequent ‘non-statutory’ deals to extend the whole headlease or acquisition of the whole freehold estate.
As well as advising on enfranchisement and landlord and tenant matters generally, Gavin also provides advice to landlords and tenants on ‘non-statutory’ or ‘voluntary’ lease extensions or freehold purchases and conveyancing transactions when a lease extension is required.
Gavin trained and qualified with a specialist leasehold enfranchisement and conveyancing firm in Mayfair. He then spent time working in the vibrant South Coast property market before returning to London to work with a large property firm advising high value private clients and institutional and social housing landlords. He has gained experience in multiple aspects of residential property law focusing on leasehold enfranchisement.
Gavin graduated from Sussex University with a 2:1 LLB Law Degree before completing the LPC with the College of Law in London.
In his spare time, Gavin enjoys sailing, art, music, travel, football and tennis. He is a huge Arsenal fan for his sins!
